New Analysis from Frost & Sullivan – Global equipment vendors must widen local presence through partnerships in order to leverage opportunities

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Africa and the Middle East present a plethora of opportunities for wireless test equipment vendors in the mid- and long-term as Long Term Evolution (LTE) deployments gather momentum. The use of high capacity bandwidth for the new heterogeneous networks deployed in the region, coupled with the complex nature of testing, will add to the demand for wireless test equipment.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Wireless Test Equipment Market in Middle East and Africa, finds that the market earned revenues of USD 257.2 Million in 2013 and estimates this to reach USD 379.2 Million in 2020. Africa, in particular, presents higher potential for growth for test equipment vendors in the wireless sector despite the average mobile penetration of nearly one to one, as some countries in the continent still do not have communication facilities.

“Researchers are developing a new concept combining Wi-Fi with LTE that will revolutionise the Internet era and aid the development of advanced wireless test equipment,” said Frost & Sullivan Measurement and Instrumentation Industry Manager. “This technology will enable higher bandwidth speeds through Wi-Fi more effectively, solve the issue of data packet loss, and make way for efficient wireless data networks.”

While the scope for fielding new clients remains strong in the Middle East and Africa, the challenge lies in sustaining existing clients and remaining competitive. The preference for homegrown in-house test equipment will curb overall market profits, as most operators do not wish to spend on sophisticated yet non-critical test equipment. The presence of several strong regional players further affects the prospects of global test vendors.

Establishing a local presence through partnerships with distributors and channel partners is important to gain a foothold in the African and Middle Eastern wireless test equipment market. Education is also vital to bridge the huge knowledge gap between 3G deployments for broadband communication and its users.

“Offering after-sales services will encourage adoption,” commented Frost & Sullivan Industry Manager. “Vendors opine that selling is only half the job, while the services and training provided post the sale is critical due to the complexity of products in this dynamic market.”
