Addressing Enterprise-Scale Policy Management For Optimized User Experience With Rich Media Content, Business Critical Applications

CAMARILLO, Calif.- As BYOD proliferates within business, government and educational settings, so do user expectations for a network environment that is continuously available anytime and anywhere. This is redefining how businesses approach connectivity and opens opportunities to leverage the capabilities of Gigabit Ethernet into the wireless environment. According to IDC, the Enterprise wireless LAN network (WLAN) market continues to be one of the fastest growing, largely due to BYOD mobility across verticals and geographies.

The explosion of wireless devices, together with increased user mobility, is prompting many organizations to expedite their WLAN upgrades to 802.11ac Gigabit Wi-Fi. Analyst experts predict that by 2017, two-thirds of business traffic will be wireless, making it imperative that Enterprise WLANs deliver Gigabit throughputs to users. Key considerations for Enterprises include:

  • Enabling Gigabit Throughput Over Existing Infrastructure: Enterprises must balance the capex and opex penalties of implementing Wi-Fi, especially for Wave 2 802.11ac access points that can support bandwidths up to 1.3G. Implementing a solution with flexible 2.5G uplink configurations at optimized power, capacity, and cost will be essential for Enterprises to enable Gigabit throughput without a wholesale upgrade of their network infrastructure.
  • Traffic Classification For Enterprise-Scale Policy Management: BYOD in the Enterprise requires support for classes of traffic on any device on the network. Access aggregation platforms must offer a scalable architecture for easy policy-management and policy-based traffic engineering, so that even mobile devices can securely support mission-critical Enterprise applications.
