Apple iMac has been finally revealed in a launch along with an exquisite Retina 5K Display. What Apple calls a “Retina 5K display” is actually a 5,120-by-2,880 display which has four times more pixels than the standard 27-inch iMac and 67 percent more pixels than a 4K display.
The device is available for purchase on Apple’s website, starting at $2,499 with a 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 chip, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz, 8GB (two 4GB) of memory, a 1TB Fusion Drive, and an AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 2GB of video memory. It will ship within 1-3 days, while a pick-up option is expected soon.
Even so, the iMac with Retina 5K display has been receiving rave reviews for its screen and is becoming a hot item among those who are considering buying a new Mac and want to see what all of the hype is about with the screen. The iMac has, in some ways, become one of the more important products in Apple’s entire lineup.
As Apple points out, for the first time ever the iMac can be configured with a 4GHz Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 4.4 GHz. At the same time, while the new iMac already packs AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics, it can be configured with better R9 M295X graphics for up to 3.5 teraflops of computing power. The new 27-inch Retina 5K iMac can also be configured with up to 32GB of memory, a 3TB Fusion Drive, or up to 1TB PCle-based flash storage.
Even with all those pixels, Apple said the new iMac will reduce display power consumption by 30 percent.
