New Delhi, 3rd September 2013: Tata Power India’s largest integrated power company was awarded several recognitions at the Chapter Convention Quality Circle (CCQC) 2013 organized by Quality Circle Forum of India(QCFI) at IES college, Mumbai. Recognized as a pioneer in the power sector, the Company has been honored with 36 awards. In its constant endeavour to enhance efficiency and establish quality benchmarks, Tata Power has ensured constant improvement and innovation across its operations.
Commenting on the efforts of the quality teams, Mr. S Padmanabhan, Executive Director- Operations, Tata Power, stated,” We sincerely appreciate the outstanding efforts put in by Quality Circle coordinators, facilitators, team leaders, team members, Union Office bearers and all others who are involved in the success of Tata Power at the CCQC 2013. Quality is one of the key thrust areas at the Company and we will continue to create an environment of active involvement and participation of our employees towards quality improvement thereby establishing industry benchmarks.”
The entries comprised of 28 Quality Circle teams and 6 5S Teams from Mumbai Operations which presented Quality Circle and 5 S Projects. There were a total of 211 participants including delegates at the CCQC – 2013. The following 36 awards were won by the Tata Power teams:
Fourteen top honours in the Gold awards category were won for the following projects implemented by various departments in Trombay, Civil, Hydro, Transmission, and Distribution:
° Increase in spares inventory
° Delay in issue of critical and heavy materials
° Modification of discharge chute of conveyor 12
° Coal firing maximization
° Increase in availability of soot blowing system
° More time required for extinguishing fire in coal bunker
° Difficulties in matching aesthetic requirements of Mumbai international airport limited (Mial)
° Disposal of excavated rubble during construction of energy dissipation arrangement, Mulshi
° High cost and ineffective cleaning of solar panel
° High aux. Energy consumption of hydro stations
° Wastage of oil and time during top up of oil in Gov. and LOP tanks.
° Reduction of repetitive failure of needle servomotor
° 33 kv interlock GIS safety arrangement
° Cycle time reduction in r/m of distribution transformer
Fourteen awards in the silver category won by the various departments in Trombay, Transmission & Distribution business and Hydro plants were for the following projects:
° Chute Modification to Bypass Feeder 4B
° Jetty Screen Wash System
° Polyelectrolyte Pump availability
° Reduction of City Water Use at Jetty
° Reducing Coal Dust from Coal stockpiles
° To reduce the inflow of silted water in CW system.
° Difficulties in construction of External Compound Wall of Trombay Power Plant.
° Automation of water filtration plant
° “Increase in Generator Winding Temperature”
° BPSU Spherical valve water Leakage
° Improvement of IR value of generators
° Power Transformer oil leakage and Cooling Fan failure
° Improving availability of DAS
° Reduction in DAS maloperation
Tata Power’s 5S teams at Versova, Carnac, Mahalaxmi and Parel, as well as Backbay won Gold certificates while the 5S team of Kalyan and Ambernath won a Silver certificate. In poster competition Mr. Raju B Kammar, QC Team “Ajinkya”, MMD Trombay was awarded 1st Prize in Poster Competition and Mr. S G Ovhal, QC Team “Pragati”, MMD Khopoli was awarded 3rd Prize.
