October 8, 2020 – Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hamada) is pleased to announce the release of strengthened functions for its Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A PCI Express*1 receiver tests.

These strengthened functions upgrade the high-quality waveform performance of the PAM4*2 PPG MU196020A to the latest high-speed, large-capacity PCI Express standards for PCIe receiver tests. As a result, customers planning and developing PCIe Gen 6 (PAM4 32 Gbaud) products for data centers and other applications now have an all-in-one measuring instrument covering future PCIe Gen 6 upgrades as well as current PCIe 3.0/4.0/5.0 receiver tests.

Background

Testing of fifth-generation (5G) communications network systems meeting enhanced Mobile Broadband(eMBB), Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications(URLLC), and massive Machine Type Communication(mMTC) requirements is in progress. On the other hand, this paradigm shift is increasing the need by data centers, forming the foundation of this technological revolution to process large data volumes at high speeds. In line with this need, while data centers are planning introduction and compliance testing*3  of PCIe 5.0 interfaces for their transmission equipment, servers, storage, etc., by late 2020, PCI-SIG*4 has already started planning and defining the future next-generation PCIe 6.0 standard using PAM4 32-Gbaud technology.

Anritsu is offering this all-in-one test solution covering both future PCIe 6.0 evaluations and current PCIe 5.0 compliance tests to help speed its customers’ product times to market.

New Product Outline

The Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A series are multichannel bit error rate (BER) measuring instruments required for designing and inspecting next-generation network interfaces, such as 400 and 800GbE*5, as well as high-speed bus interfaces, such as PCI Express 4.0/5.0, USB3.2/4, Thunderbolt, etc.

These added functions support early-stage development of PAM4 PCIe 6.0 equipment using the PAM4 PPG MU196020A with high-quality data output performance. Moreover, combined use with the existing SI ED MU195040A PCI solution supports PCIe 3.0/4.0/5.0 compliance tests as an all-in-one solution for PAM4 performance evaluations and compliance tests.

Outline of Other Added Functions

These version upgrades add the following functions.

  • Equalizer*6 Search function for easy PAM4 BER measurement using high-performance PAM4 ED MU196040B and Eye Contour functions for evaluating PAM4 signal Eye margin characteristics.
  • SAS3/4*7 and DP1.4*8 receiver tests using PPG/ED MU195020A/MU195040A.
