Nov 3, 2021: STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, will host its Industrial Summit 2021 at the Futian Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen, China, on November 3.
A leader in the industrial semiconductor market, ST features a wide and innovative product portfolio containing more than 5,000 products targeted at various industrial applications. For its 3rd year, the Industrial Summit maintains the theme of “Powering Your Innovation.” The Summit will include fascinated showstoppers and demonstrations together with insightful technical sessions from ST and its technical partners sharing the complete ecosystem to power attendees’ next design and innovations.
Innovations at 4 showstopper areas with sustainable technologies
Long a key focus of the company, sustainability is an integral part of ST’s value proposition. ST’s solutions and products contribute to renewable power, sustainable transportation, and energy efficiency as the world aims to achieve an eco-friendly environment and carbon neutralization. The main attraction for this year’s event will be 4 showstopper areas that address Smart Farming, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Infrastructure and Environment, and Smart Green Energy Network, with 20 differentiated sustainable technologies.
Smart Farming: Demos and applications on display include smart lighting, soil humidity and temperature detection, water-quality monitoring, wind-speed and -direction sensing, and rubber-tree-tapping machines.
Using wireless and wired connectivity products, including STM32WL LoRa MCUs, sensors and actuators, and power-management devices, ST provides products and solutions for smart agricultural systems that enable farm managers to collect agricultural data, analyze their growing environment, predict crop and livestock disease, and develop scientific and accurate production strategies. One example on display will be a rubber-tree-tapping machine powered by ST’s powerSTEP01 fully integrated motor driver.
Smart Manufacturing: Today, manufacturing is undergoing a transformation. High computing capability, advanced motor-control algorithms, reliable connectivity, stable image recognition, and smart sensors are the key technologies involved and all are supported by devices across ST’s wide portfolio of products and solutions.
ST will showcase an autonomous rover demo for smart manufacturing. Using navigation algorithms in conjunction with ST’s ToF sensors, the rover can move freely without causing a collision. At the same time, with the help of artificial intelligence and machine vision, the rover can identify objects of specific colors, and pick them up and place them in the corresponding baskets using its robotic arm with FOC (Field Oriented (position) Control).
Smart Infrastructure and Environment: To meet the needs of infrastructure and environment projects, ST will demonstrate a number of new STM32 MCU/MPUs, STSPIN motor controllers, and power-management devices, together with a full range of MEMS and sensors (including ToF sensors, TMOS and actuator technology) and comprehensive wired and wireless connectivity technologies, including ST’s BlueNRG series, which all contribute to the development of smart-home, smart-building and smart-city applications. We’ll also show products designed around the KNX , an industry-standard backbone of the smart-home and smart-building applications that is automated by our STKNX and STM32.
At the Summit, ST will showcase these technologies and applications, among others, through demos addressing smart buildings, smart parking, and smart lighting poles.
Smart Green Energy Network: ST’s green-energy technologies help our customers increase energy efficiency and system reliability for all types of equipment in both the home and industrial sectors. ST’s advanced technologies include a full range of MCUs, Silicon Carbide (SiC) power transistors, galvanic isolation gate drivers, as well as power metering and power-line communication (PLC) controllers.
ST will also showcase the Smart Green Energy Network, which demonstrates the solutions that have the power to transform and optimize energy systems. The network consists of solar panels, Battery Management System, power meters, a photovoltaic system with safety rapid shut-down, and an EV charging station.
Flagship demos from 3 ST Industrial Competence Centers of Power and Energy, Motor Control, and Automation
To provide our Industrial customers in Asia with strong and efficient support for their development activities, ST has set up three dedicated Industrial Competence Centers focusing on Motor Control, Automation, and Power and Energy.
Power and Energy: The 3kW bridgeless totem-pole Power Factor Correction (PFC) with digital control allows engineers to design an innovative topology with ST’s latest power devices that include SiC MOSFETs, super-junction MOS ICs with low Rdson, galvanic isolation gate drivers, and a 32-bit MCU. This reference design also opens the path to a compact converter running at 70kHz offering a high peak efficiency and low THD distortion.
Motor Control: A dual-motor position-control demo can precisely synchronize and spin two PMSM motors fast, driving two blades that draw the event logo when the sideways stepper motors bring them together. Powered by a highly integrated STSPIN32G4 System-in-Package based on an STM32G4 running ST’s FOC Software Development Kit (SDK), and coordinated with a powerSTEP motor driver, it demonstrates ST’s high-performance solutions and wide ecosystem for motor-control applications.
Automation: The multi-axis smart collaborative robot arm features compactness, high integration, and intelligence, which allow it to be easily installed and deployed. Benefiting from the advantages above, the robot arm is expected to become more and more popular in factory automation, to assist with repetitive work and enhance productivity.
