STMicroelectronics’latest digital-home SoCs combine with Envivio’ssoftware-based HEVC encoding to bring viewing experiences to a new level
New Delhi, April 4, 2014 – STMicroelectronics , a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, and Envivio, a leading provider of software-based video processing and delivery solutions, announced that inter-operability between ST’s innovative set-top box solutions for digital home and Envivio Ultra HD HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) compression will be demonstrated during CCBN (China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition) 2014 in Beijing, March 20-22.
ST’s latest multimedia application-processor System-on-Chips (the STiH312 client-box and STiH412 server-box product families, codenamed ‘Cannes’ and ‘Monaco,’ respectively) integrate industry-leading Faroudja®technology to decode and display video up to the leading-edge Ultra HD (2160p) and the next-generation H.265 / HEVC video compression.
The Envivio Muse™encoder supports next-generation H.265/HEVC compression, designed to significantly improve bandwidth efficiencycompared to H.264 for OTT (Over the Top) operators, enhancing quality for any screen, including Ultra HD and 1080p60 content delivered to tablets, PCs, or connected TVs.
The ST/Envivio demonstration showcases the end-to-end distribution of HEVC-coded Ultra HD content that brings an exciting new dimension to home TV viewingfor end users while conserving bandwidth and ensuring inter-operability for TV operators.
“UltraHD and HEVC technologies represent a major change in viewing experience and network performance,” said Gian Luca Bertino, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Digital Convergence Group, STMicroelectronics.“ST’scollaboration with key players in this market like Envivio will help accelerate the mass deployment of next-generation systems for the digital home.”
“Envivio is leading the way in HEVC compression, with our Muse product being trialed for both UHDand 1080p services with providers around the world. We are pleased to work with leaders in the semiconductor space such as ST that are developing the chipsets to bring these new technologies to market,” said Jean-Pierre Henot, Envivio CTO.
STMicroelectronics will displayits innovative solutions for the Digital Home at Hall 3, Booth #3205, China International Expo Center (CIEC), March 20 – 22, 2014.
