Digitization wave, has made, India a key market for ST’s Application Processors and other digital products. With the theme, “Augmenting the Digital Lifestyle of India”, ST recently organized DPG Technology Day event in New Delhi. The company showcased  impressive list of demos, which reflected ST’s unparalleled leadership for entry level to UltraHD and HEVC technologies and solutions.

Among many demos showcased in the event, Electronics Maker captured some key demos which are elaborated below

Frog from Wyplay

STMicroelectronics Frog from WyplayFrog by Wyplay provides a comprehensive client and server TV middleware to create pay-TV customized solutions. At its core lies a feature-rich device-side software stack configurable with powerful build tools, complemented by optional server-side components with multiscreen, multi-user profiling and social TV functionalities. Designed with open standards and technologies (such as Linux™, OpenGL ES 2.0, Webkit, HTML 5, and more), it fits perfectly well to ST Software architecture.

  • Offer open source software solution for pay-TV operators
  • Broadcast and broadband services, combined with the latest STB middleware and broadband software solutions.
  • Bring content discovery to new heights, while blending Social TV applications with multiscreen access and Gesture Navigation to the new connected consumer.

Android TV

There is a growing interest in Android framework in the STB/Operator industry which is primarily driven by 2 converging trends. Last year in November ST announced the availability of the world’s first STB (Set-Top Box) platform with Google’s Android TV based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

With the new platform, users will be able to enjoy Android TV along with the complete Android ecosystem, including popular Android games, applications, and services. This is possible because of the unique security mechanisms that are embedded inSTMicroelectronics Android TV the ST SoC devices combined with state-of-the-art decoding, transcoding, and graphics processing.

The STiH412-based Android 5.0 platform is replete with the most advanced set–top-box features, including:

  • Multi-decode HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) combined with ‘Picture in Picture’ support;
  • A specific SoC architecture combining state-of-the-art graphic capabilities and highly efficient offload processors to optimize the gaming experience and enable 3D user interfaces running together with flawless ultra-high-definition video decoding;
  • Transcode capability to distribute broadcast content on a smartphone, tablet or 2nd screen at home without consuming any of the broadband connection bandwidth;
  • VP8 encoder to support Google Hangout™;
  • Power efficiency for fan-less and small form-factor boxes.
