Revolutionary SiT8021 Recognized for Breakthrough Innovation in Oscillators
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – January 11, 2016 – SiTime Corporation, a MEMS and analog semiconductor company and a wholly owned subsidiary of MegaChips Corporation, today announced the SiT8021 µPower MEMS oscillator has won the Product of the Year award from Electronic Products. The editors of Electronic Products, a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers, evaluated thousands of products launched in 2015. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance.
“Products in today’s fastest growing markets are becoming smaller and more power conscious, and MEMS timing is a transformative technology that’s key to continuing these trends,” said Richard Comerford, senior technical editor at Electronic Products. “Since SiTime’s MEMS-based SiT8021 is the first discrete oscillator we’ve seen that enables the significant size and power savings needed to advance mobile accessories, wearables, and IoT devices, it clearly merits recognition as a Product of the Year.”
The SiT8021 is a 1 to 26 MHz µPower oscillator based on SiTime’s TempFlat™ MEMS and low-power analog technologies and is aimed at battery-driven, small-form factor products. Compared to quartz-based oscillators, the SiT8021 offers 90% lower power consumption, 40% smaller size and 70% lighter weight.
“The SiT8021 µPower oscillator delivers breakthrough size, power and weight benefits far superior than any quartz-based device,” said Piyush Sevalia, executive vice president of marketing at SiTime. “Because of these benefits, wearable and mobile customers are designing our µPower oscillators into behavior-changing consumer electronics products. We are honored that Electronic Products magazine has chosen the SiT8021 as their Product of the Year.”
The Product of the Year award by Electronic Products is the second honor for SiTime’s SiT8021 since the opening of this year’s award season. In December 2015, the SiT8021 was listed in Microwave & RF magazine’s Top Microwave & RF Products of 2015.
