The product portfolio covers the entire 4K digital video transmission path. The company offers products for post-production, ingest, storage, playout, encoding and multiplexing as well as transmitters for this high-resolution standard.

  • At IBC 2014 Amsterdam, R&S AVHE100 headend handled the first worldwide live soccer broadcast in 4K. R&S BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring system was used to monitor the 4K/UHD broadcast.
  • All broadcast operators in South Korea rely on terrestrial Rohde & Schwarz transmitters to broadcast their first 4K programs.
  • Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) already transmitted the FIFA World Cup in summer 2014 in 4K and the Asian Games in Incheon.

R&S CLIPSTER® is the mastering station for editing, handling and playing out 4K data in real-time. It supports mezzanine formats such as AS-02 and AS-11 and can generate the necessary interoperable master format (IMF) packages up to 4K. Thanks to its watermarking feature, R&S CLIPSTER offers global tracing of the circulation of screeners, it offers maximum protection against piracy.

R&S VENICE, a multi-channel video server with its cutting-edge and open system architecture, variety of supported file formats, codecs, and interfaces as well as its extensive, integrated feature set, optimizes users’ current and future workflows.

R&S PRIOS is a powerful board featuring the latest technology, with extremely high frame rates (HFR). The maximum resolution it can handle is a full 4K (4096 x 2160), with lower resolutions like UHD (3840 x 2160), 2K, and HD also supported.

R&S DVS storage solutions boast new features and performance capabilities for 4K and 8K production environments. While the latest member R&S SpycerBox Ultra TL, offers a storage capacity of up to 288 TB, R&S SpycerBox Cell packs maximum density and performance with 30 hard drives housed in a single 1U chassis. Post production and broadcast customers will benefit from the systems’ incredible data throughput and robustness.

R&S AVHE100 headend then processes the 4K content in real-time. This system solution provides real-time encoding of 4K/UHD at 60 frames per second using HEVC and a DVB-T2 gateway.

  • In May 2014, R&S THU9 5 kW liquid-cooled transmitter was put into operation on Kwanak Mountain.
  • SBS uses the R&S ETL TV analyzer as the T&M reference for DVT-T2 analysis and demodulation.

Network operators and over-the top (OTT) providers also benefit from the 4K capabilities of R&S headend and monitoring solutions to make transmission more efficient. Using HEVC encoding, R&S AVHE100 headend makes it possible to transmit more services at a given bandwidth or to improve the picture resolution quality.

R&S BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring solution monitors various OTT and broadcast signals live, reducing the number of monitoring instruments and systems. It also provides real-time monitoring of video streams on the basis of reference-based measurements, to picture quality of the transmitted videos. It supports HEVC-encoded videos with a resolution of up to 4K/UHD.

The DOCSIS cable load generator from Rohde & Schwarz is the first to simulate networks using DOCSIS 3.1 signals.

R&S PRISMON, is a compact, flexible solution for monitoring different types of broadcast signals. It monitors SDI, ASI, TS over IP and T2MI signals and automatically detects content errors such as still pictures and zero levels in audio signals.
