SPS IPC Drives 2015: Four built-in memory partitions for the new generation of CmDongle hardware protection devices

Karlsruhe, Germany – The product family CmDongle combines in a single device security elements for advanced software protection with a skillful use of flash memory, partitionable in four areas, each meant for a specific purpose and individually configurable. This special architecture, together with an extreme ease of use, help manufacturers realize new products and design strategies. During SPS IPC Drives, that will take place in Nuremberg, Germany, November 24 to 26, visitors of booth 660 at hall 7 have a chance to learn directly from Oliver Winzenried, CEO and founder of Wibu-Systems, all of the advantages and use cases of this product family.

Each CmDongle with flash memory includes both a CmPublic partition that allows the reading and writing of files just like a standard flash memory key and a CmSecure partition that is not detected as a separate drive and where only software authorized by CodeMeter® API can read or write blocks of data. This partition could, for instance, be used by manufacturers to save log data like a flight recorder or other sensitive information.

CmDongles with flash memory are available in several form factors, including (micro)SD card, CF and CFast card or USB sticks. The USB version comes with two additional partitions: the CmPrivate partition that provides AES-based data encryption and read rights issued by CodeMeter, and the CmCdRom partition where data can only be read, but not erased or overwritten. Mobile applications can therefore be delivered to customers on CmDongles, loaded directly onto this partition in a totally secure environment.

Oliver Winzenried states: “During this year’s SPS IPC Drives, we want to highlight the benefits and the opportunities that only CmDongles with built-in flash memory can guarantee. Many intelligent device manufacturers already appreciate the traditional functions of our hardware protection devices, but have not yet fully grasped how to make optimal use of flash memory or the partitions available on it. We want to take this opportunity to educate our customers, draw their attention to some of the successful case studies where flash memory made a real difference in business, and leave no doors open for hackers.”
