Hoofddorp, Netherlands: Murata has developed a polymer aluminum capacitor (PAC) in the popular B case size (EIA 1411) — the world’s first in this size. The smaller PAC is primarily intended for use in mobile devices such as laptop PCs, thin televisions and AV equipment.
As electronic devices have become smaller, thinner and faster, the need for a physically smaller capacitor for smoothing the inputs and outputs of power circuits has become greater. Until now tantalum capacitors have been the main choice in the B case size, but the new B case size PACs are another choice with desirable low ESR characteristics.
To meet this need, Murata developed the smaller PAC, identified as part number ECNSB41C336M040L. Raising the bar further, the new capacitor also offers 105 degrees C durability, 16 V rated voltage and 33 uF capacitance. It is specified with a +/- 20 % tolerance on capacitor value, and a maximum ESR rating of 40 milliohms. Exhibiting robustness and versatility, it has a useable temperature range of -40 to +105 °C. Dimensions of the capacitor are L=3.5, W=2.8, T=1.9 (mm).
Mass production of the capacitor begins in April 2017 and Murata will expand the lineup in the months ahead.
