January 8, 2015 – Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking the new MAX14836 24V Dual‑Output Sensor Transceiver from Maxim Integrated. This device is a sensor driver, capable of driving two sensors from dual 24V outputs. This device features two outputs, each of which are configurable for push‑pull, high‑side, or low‑side outputs. Other features include extensive fault detection and reporting and two on‑chip linear regulators. This new sensor transceiver targets industrial applications requiring sensor monitoring.

Maxim-MAX14836The new Maxim Integrated MAX14836 24V Dual‑Output Sensor Transceiver, available from Mouser Electronics, allows two sensors to communicate with a target microcontroller. Communication is through an SPI interface which allows configuration and monitoring of the MAX14836 and its target sensors. The DIO driver can handle a 3µF load, while the DO driver can handle a 2µF load. Electromagnetic interference can be controlled by programmable slew control.

The MAX14836 also includes two linear regulators that generate 5V and 3.3V. The 5V regulator can drive up to 30mA external load current, while the 3.3V regulator can drive up to 20mA. If the 5V regulator is not used, it can be used to supply current for the internal analog and digital functions. As a fail-safe, the output drivers are automatically disabled if either regulator, or the chip supply voltage, falls below their preset thresholds.

The device features extensive on-chip fault detection including detecting DIO driver short circuits longer than 650µsec, DO driver short circuits longer than 440µsec, reverse polarity protection, undervoltage detection, and thermal protection including overtemperature warning and thermal shutdown.
