EUROPLASMA BOOSTS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW NANOCOATING SOLUTIONS TO WATERPROOF SMARTPHONES
Nanofics® plasma coating machine fit for mass production showcased at Europlasma booth number 7M55 in hall 7 of MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, March 2nd to 5th
March 2nd, 2015 – Oudenaarde, Belgium
Belgium based Europlasma, a world leader in low pressure plasma technology, is proud to present during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 its growing family of innovative nanocoating solutions to waterproof smartphones under the Nanofics® brand name.
Nanofics® refers to nanoscaled functionalization into the core of complex shaped materials and products. It is Europlasma’s patented and patent pending nanocoating technology platform, first applied on industrial scale in 1996.
Manufacturers of electronic devices typically use the Nanofics 120® coating solutions to reach the highest levels of water repellency (water contact angle of 120 degrees according to ASTM D5964) and oil repellency (oil repellency level 8 according to ISO 14419).
There is a strong trend to move to more environmentally friendly solutions such as Nanofics 110® coatings, which are also highly water repellent (water contact angle of 110 degrees according to ASTM D5964) and highly oil repellent (oil repellency level 6 according to ISO 14419) fluoropolymer type of nanocoatings, but they are completely free from PFOA and PFOS.
Now Europlasma is leading the way to even more environmentally friendly solutions with the development of a new family of water repellent nanocoatings which are completely free from halogens. Selected customers have started experimenting with these new halogen free coatings with very promising results.
Europlasma works with each individual customer to find the optimal nanocoating solution for his device, reaching ingress protection levels from IPX2 to IPX7. Like no other Europlasma is able to implement this solution on industrial scale. During MWC Europlasma will showcase a CD1000 Nanofics, a plasma coating machines which is typically used in mass production of smartphones, handling up to 500 devices per batch, 4.000.000 devices per year.
In recent months Europlasma has boosted the development of new nanocoating solutions to waterproof smartphones in cooperation with the famous Research Group of Electrochemical and Surface Engineering (SURF) of the Free University of Brussels (VUB). The development received funding from IWT, the Flemish government agency for Innovation by Science and Technology.
Ahead of MWC Europlasma is also excited to announce that it has recently strengthened its board with the appointment of Jürg Stahl, a successful entrepreneur with a passion for technology and extensive experience in the semiconductor and electronics industry. Jürg is majority owner and chairman of the board of ancosys GmbH, a market leader for semiconductor metallisation process management systems. In 1989 he founded a small but fast growing company developing semiconductor sensor solutions for mobile phones which became well-known as Micronas Semiconductor and went public through an IPO at the Zurich Stock Exchange in 1996. Jürg acted as CEO and chairman of the board of Micronas for several years. Today Jürg is active as business angel and advisor to VC and PE companies in Europe, while still being closely involved with world leading semiconductor research for IBM in the USA.
