Hoofddorp, Netherlands: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd is pleased to announce that it has obtained ISO 26262 Automotive Functional Safety certification for its development process from the third-party German certifier SGS-TÜV Saar GmbH on February 13, 2024. The certification affirms that Murata’s development process for hardware, software, and integrated systems aligns with the highest level of functional safety as defined by ISO 26262 – Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D). With this certification, products, such as communication modules and sensors, that adhere to this rigorous development process will guarantee the highest level of functional safety.

With the increasing demand for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in recent years and elevated autonomous operation, there has been a corresponding need for enhanced safety performance in vehicles. As a result, automotive components and software are required to adhere to the stringent safety standards demanded by this progressive industry.

ISO 26262 is an international standard for functional safety in the automotive industry, specifically addressing the safety of electrical and electronic systems in vehicles. It offers a comprehensive framework for the development and validation of electronic systems, ensuring their reliable and safe performance over their entire lifecycle, helping to reduce the risk of malfunctions that could lead to hazardous situations. Murata’s development process has been certified to comply with ASIL D, the most stringent safety level specified in ISO 26262. This demonstrates to Murata’s customers that Murata’s products are well-suited for systems with heightened risks in the event of a component failure, such as airbags and electric power steering.

Safety is a fundamental principle of Murata’s mobility product offering. The company is dedicated to contributing to the realization of an accident-free society by developing innovative hardware and software products that provide exceptional safety. They also ensure that their advanced products are readily available in the market. The certification ceremony was held on May 21st for Murata’s adherence to ISO 26262.
