2020 predictions by Mr. Anku Jain, Managing Director, MediaTek India.
With a spike in demand for electronic products, the ESDM sector in India is predicted to reach ~USD 230 Billion by 2020, growing at 16-23% annually. The National Policy on Electronics 2019 (NPE 2019), launched by the Indian Government in February 2019, targets $400 billion turnovers by 2025 from domestic manufacturing, setting up clusters for the entire value chain, and employing over 10 million people directly or otherwise to achieve a growth rate of 32 percent.
The drivers contributing to the growth of this market relate to increasing levels of income and urbanization, affordability of products, product innovation, availability of newer variants of products and rise in the share of organized retail.
New Emerging Applications
In 2020 we will have a much wider adoption of tailor-made applications and services for different tasks and AI will continue to improve the customer and user experiences. 5G is considered to be the next big thing especially for AI and IoT and things beyond smartphones.
5G promises to offer a better video viewing experience on any device, irrespective of the user being static, or mobile. Imagine a financial services firm that could transform an ATM into a full-service branch powered by videoconferencing over a 5G fixed wireless connection, or in the near future being serviced by VR bots in the branch. 5G is expected to offer the requisite bandwidth and low latency that is fundamental to mobile VR experiences. Further, VR would extend far beyond gaming where users could be able to attend sporting events and concerts via their VR headsets capturing live experiences.
New Trends that will have impact in 2020
2020 will be the year of 5G when the world would embrace this technology. Prominent OEMs are ready with their 5G handsets and it’s the service providers who are going to make the next move by making 5G data plans affordable and connecting the world at a super-fast speed. The increased bandwidth will enable machines, robots, and autonomous vehicles to collect and transfer more data than ever, leading to technological advancement in the area of IoT.
Product Innovations for 2020
The year 2020 would begin the era of 5G and we at MediaTek are all geared up for it as we have already our 5G solutions ready. In November, MediaTek has unveiled Dimensity 1000, first 5G mobile SoC in its 5G family of chipsets. The single 5G chip solution, with its integrated 5G modem, is a brilliant combination of advanced technologies packed into a 7nm chip and tuned for 5G performance. The Dimensity series is a culmination of MediaTek’s investment in 5G and a position as a leader driving 5G development and innovation.
We have also collaborated with Intel for our 5G modem for PCs. Dell and HP are expected to be among the first original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to embrace the 5G modem. Our new 5G modem for PCs is based on Helio M70 5G modem which was introduced earlier this year.
