Bangalore, September 4, 2015: Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker and an emerging player in Tablets and Smart phones, in association with YUWA, a social development platform for girls based in Jharkhand, today shared the success of the ‘Pitch to Her’ initiative. Launched earlier this month, the objective of the initiative is to field innovative and technology ideas to improve lives of rural girls and the community in Hutup village, Jharkhand. Out of the encouraging responses received from individuals across India, the YUWA girls selected 11 ideas out of which 3 will be finally implemented at Hutup, Jharkhand.
The campaign has also received a lot of interest from organisations and well-known personalities across the world, including UN Women, Half the Sky Mvmt (a global platform to put an end to the oppression of women and girls worldwide), Mamta Chhikara (Co-Founder at IndianBizParty), Debjani Ghosh (VP -SMG, MD – Intel South Asia) and Rajan Anandan (MD, Google India) amongst others, who have applauded the campaign and extended their support through Twitter.
Speaking about the last few days of activity and excitement, Chanda, one of the YUWA girls said, “This initiative is helping us to learn and create things which we never thought was possible before. We are also getting to meet new people who are teaching us how we can use technology in a simple manner to solve our problems. I can confidently say that we are now more aware of the world around us and also more equipped to meet our day to day challenges.”
The microsite www.pitchtoher.com created for individuals to pitch their ideas has received over 40,000 visits and reached over 9 million people in just 3 days, ensuing engagement from all corners of the country.
Pitches poured in from across country and the top three pitches that caught the attention of the YUWA girls focused on energy, technology and sanitation. The best ones are as follows:
- Pitch 1 – Making cooking easy and fuel-efficient through rocket stove
- Pitch 2 – Teach the girls coding as it is not only fun but also gives one the ability and complete authority to create what suits their needs.
- Pitch 3 – Improve the menstrual hygiene of the girls by training them in making sanitary napkins.
