To support Government of India’s initiative of switching to LED lighting for energy conservation
New Delhi: Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, commissioned its first Electrical Centre of Excellence laboratory for LED and Batteries in Delhi on 29th Jan 2016. The Facility aims to comply with not just the Indian government’s regulations in LED and battery industry, but international testing standards as well.
The laboratory offers safety, certification and performance testing facilities to a host of clients from the energy storage, lighting and IT-AV industries. The portfolio of services are spread across an area of 3,000 sq. ft. divided across two floors. The ground floor provides Battery testing and Photometry services while the LED safety tests and IT-AV (2016B) lab services are situated on the first floor.
The new laboratory seeks to take advantage of the growing demand from lighting manufacturers in India in light of the Indian government’s National Programs for LED-based Home and Street Lighting which seek to replace 770 million conventional bulbs with LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP) and 330m of Street Light under Street Light National Program (SLNP) by 2019. Speaking at the event, Mr. Sandeep Das, Director – Strategy and BD, Intertek South Asia said, “The Electrical Centre of Excellence is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities created by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Central Registration Office (BIS CRO) as it provides all the services sought by the lighting and battery industries. Depending on industry growth, the lab will be expanded to accommodate LM 80, LED chip level resting, and photobiological testing for LEDs.”
This new lab supports Intertek’s global Centers of Excellence for Lighting and Battery Testing across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
