Advancements in Digital Imaging and rising need for Smartphones over the traditional Point and Shoot Digital Cameras have generated tremendous growth opportunities for the Mobile Imaging market in India. Currently, high-end Smartphones (now branded as Smart Cameras) are loaded with advanced features such as optical zoom, panorama, burst shot, which makes them a preferred choice for the Indian consumers.
According to 6Wresearch, India Digital Camera market shipments reached 1.62 Million units in CY 2014. The demand for Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) Cameras remains strong whereas, the demand for Compact/Point and Shoot Digital Cameras have witnessed a declining trend. In CY 4Q 2014, Compact Digital Cameras registered a substantial decline of around 37% as compared to the same quarter previous year. However, DSLR segment recorded a growth of more than 19% in CY 4Q 2014 as compared to CY 3Q 2014.
Nikon continued its market leadership in the overall India Digital Camera market followed by Canon in the DSLR and Sony in the Point and Shoot Camera segment.
Intense competition from Smartphones, declining prices of DSLR and growing demand for Advanced Digital Cameras are some of the key reasons for the decreasing growth of the Compact Digital Cameras in the Indian market.
