Mumbai, January 13 , 2017: Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) signs Memorandum of Association with India Energy Storage Alliance to promote Energy Storage, Micro grid technologies and their applications in India. The MoUs were signed by Mr Sunil Misra, Director General, IEEMA and Mr Rahul Walawalkar, President and MD, Customized Energy Solutions India Pvt Ltd.
The increased penetration of Solar PV and wind installations is fundamentally altering the power sector across the world. The shift towards more and more distributed power generation and higher contribution of energy to the grid from “infirm” power sources like solar and wind are creating new challenges in grid integration of renewables. The seasonal fluctuations in solar power generation and the inherent unpredictability of energy from these sources have led to increased adaption of energy storage systems.
Mr Harish Agarwal, Vice President, IEEMA opined, “The importance of energy storage systems for India cannot be underestimated. In a country where more than 400 million people do not have access to grid electricity and a similar number not having reliable and quality grid power, distributed and off-grid PV systems along with storage will be of great need. Indian policy makers– both at the central and state level – can play a major role in devising policies to gain a major share in the global PV storage market.”
On signing the MoU IEEMA Director General Mr Sunil Misra said, “Currently there are no major storage systems either in the industrial or commercial sectors, mainly owing to the high cost of storage devices. Thus the primary objective of signing a MoU with IESA is to make India a global leader in Energy storage and Microgrid technology and hub for manufacturing of these emerging technologies by 2020.”
