HPL Electric & Power Ltd (NSE: HPL, BSE: 540136) , an established electric equipment manufacturing company in India has installed complete smart lighting solutions in Bhopal to support the Government of India’s Smart Cities initiative. The company has completed the smart lighting project, formal inauguration done on Tuesday 8th of May by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon’able Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
As a part of the smart city project, HPL has completed installation of over 20,000 Smart LED Lights & 400 CCMS panels with (6LoWPAN Communication Technology) while extending solutions towards the Smart Lighting project. With a population of over 1.9 million and the expanded planning area of 463 square kilometres, Bhopal stands among 15 largest cities of India and was also shortlisted in the top 20 cities of the Smart City Challenge.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rishi Seth, Joint Managing Director, HPL Electric & Power Ltd said, “We are elated to be associated with the Government in their quest to promote and develop Bhopal to make it a citizen friendly and sustainable city. Among the 100 cities selected by the Govt, Bhopal is the first to have completed this journey and we are glad to be a part of this great initiative. This technology has various advantages which helps in controlling and monitoring the street lighting system and will result in lower servicing cost which provides great way of saving and can be further utilised for the greater good of the Nation”.
The Smart City Mission of Government of India seeks to transform cities into sustainable centres of economic activity. The Government also plans to spend over Rs. 3 lakh crore to recast 100 cities, improving the existing infrastructure and make our cities smart & sustainable. By taking a 360 degree approach government plans to focus on core infrastructure elements like: adequate water supply, assured electricity supply, sanitation, including solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, robust IT connectivity and digitalization, good governance, especially e-Governance and citizen participation, sustainable environment, safety and security of citizens, particularly women, children and the elderly, etc.
