NEW DELHI, July 28, 2014 — HP has announced that 18 HP notebooks, desktops, workstations, thin clients and displays have been registered as Gold products—the highest rating available—by the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT®) in India.
This is the first time the Green Electronics Council’s EPEAT registration is available in India and HP is one of the first companies to have products meet the program’s stringent requirements.
Some of the HP products that have received Gold certification include the HP EliteBook 1040, one of the thinnest, lightest and most durable Ultrabooks available, as well as the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Business Desktop Mini, one of the industry’s smallest business desktop PCs that also consumes less than 8 watts of power at idle.
“Customers across the world are becoming environmentally conscious and want to use products that have an associated environmental value, which could be anything from energy efficiency to recyclable materials used in the products,” said Robert Frisbee, chief executive officer, Green Electronics Council. “Companies like HP are leading the curve by manufacturing products that integrate environmental excellence and high technical performance.”
EPEAT considers several categories of environmental attributes that cover the full life cycle of electronic products. Products are granted Bronze, Silver or Gold certifications depending on the number of environmental features they possess, such as elimination of toxic substances, use of recycled and recyclable materials, product design for recycling, product longevity, energy efficiency, corporate performance and packaging attributes, as well as requiring manufacturer responsibility for collection and responsible recycling of all registered devices.
“HP has been a pioneer of designing products with the goal of reducing environmental impact while maximizing overall value for our customers,” said Ketan Patel, Director, Computing Category, PPS, HP India. “Increasingly, people want products that have strong environmental attributes, and EPEAT helps consumers and businesses identify products with these attributes. We believe, in the long term, what’s right for the environment is what’s good for business.”
