IDC has recently named HP India as #1 vendor of PC (for a third successive quarter) and for Printers yet again. According to the IDC Asia Pacific Quarterly PC Tracker, HP’s PC market share has jumped to 34.1% in Q2 2013. The IDC Quarterly HCP Tracker shows that HP has market leading 57% and 50% share in inkjet and laser printer categories respectively, while also emerging as #1 vendor in Multi-Function Printers (MFP) with a 30% share. HP has emerged as India’s #1 vendor in all PC categories, including consumer notebooks, desktops and overall consumer clients, commercial notebooks, commercial desktops and overall commercial clients, workstations.
“In terms of vendor share, HP recorded its highest ever quarterly market share with an astounding 34.1% share, accounting for one-third of the India PC market for Q2 2013.” said Kiran Kumar, Research Manager IDC India. “Though the enterprise PC business was primarily driven by the single largest notebook deal in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the vendor also led the consumer PC business in India with their well established channel network and incentive programs tied with their effective pricing strategies”, adds Kiran.
“The IT marketplace is transforming rapidly, and technology companies are challenged to deliver innovations that enable the changing needs of consumers and businesses,” said Rajiv Srivastava, President, PPS, Hewlett-Packard India. “These numbers are a validation of HP India’s market strategy to deliver the New Style of IT to our customers through cutting-edge innovations with best-in-class user experiences.”
Mobility coupled with touch displays, social computing and analytics are the key trends shaping PC and printer market demand in the country across consumer and commercial segments. Leveraging this market understanding, HP India has delivered innovations such as a hybrid Envy x2 for consumers; an enterprise class tablet – HP ElitePad900 and new form factors like the HP AiO. Earlier this year the company had launched HP Connected Music, offering all HP Windows 8 laptop users an unlimited and quality access to the world’s best music at no additional charge for a year.
On the printing side, HP’s strategy to develop inkjet technology for businesses has resulted in strong adoption of its Officejet Pro range of business inkjets. This range includes the world’s fastest desktop printer designed for workgroups and HP’s first monochromatic Officejet range targeted at small and medium businesses. The company’s range of Flow laser MFP’s, which offer secure and convenient content digitization and delivery, have been significant in driving HP’s cloud strategy.
HP also launched several models of advanced laser MFPs in December last year, including HP Hotspot, the first MFP with a built-in wireless router. Another example of innovation in business model is the recent launch of its new Managed Print Services offering for mid-market organizations, providing a secure, centrally managed print environment that streamlines workflows and optimizes document output and related business processes for the SMB and enterprise segment.
In line with its goal to bridge the digital divide, which is fundamental to the country’s socio-economic growth, HP India is progressing well in its project to deliver 1.5million laptops to the UP government for students. The company has also recently been awarded the majority share of the Rajasthan government’s scheme to distribute laptops to qualified students. A series of other significant customer wins have helped HP achieve its leadership position.
Backing HP’s market traction is the largest technology support network in India. HP offers next business day repairs for any faulty or damaged device in top tier 1 cities and a 48 hour resolution in Tier 2 and 3 cities. A service network which enables onsite service in more than 1800 cities and Accidental Damage Protection for all consumer notebooks. The company also offers popular consumer initiatives such as dial-a-cartridge and click-a-cartridge to enable extremely fast fulfilment for low cost printer consumables.
