For the residential as well as Commercial Premises, the need for the Video distribution application supported by generic local area networks (LANs) is being exploited. Thanks to the technology by which the homeowners be able to move video from a cable company set-top box or a Blu-Ray player —to monitors in different rooms. HDMI connector is a special connector this is bulky, incompatible with common distribution cables used in commercial LANs which is an obstacle to the distribution of digital video in commercial buildings. HDBaseT is promoted by the HDBaseT Alliance, is a consumer electronic and connectivity standard for whole-home and commercial distribution of uncompressed ultra-high-definition multimedia content. HDBaseT connect all the entertainment devices through its 5Play feature set, converging Uncompressed full HD digital video, audio up to 10.2GBit/s .It has a low cost standard Cat5e/6 LAN cable and RJ-45 connector which Supplies up to 95W of power . It supports USB and HDCP and converges uncompressed ultra-HD digital video and audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, USB 2.0, up to 100W of power over cable, and various control signals through a single LAN cable for up to 100 meters/328 feet. HDBaseT enables the transmission of audio & video, Ethernet, USB and controls over fiber optic, for even longer distances. In addition to using a standardized RJ45 connector and balanced twisted pair cabling, HDBaseT includes five different functions to support such as uncompressed high-definition video, same audio formats supported by HDMI, variety of options for device control ,100BASE-TX Ethernet data channel and . DC power over the same cable
HDBaseT architecture
HDBaseT sends video, audio, Ethernet and controls from source to sink, but only 100Mb are transferred back. HDBaseT is based on DSP technology and Application Front end architecture. HDBaseT uses a proprietary version of Pulse Amplitude Modulation technology, where digital data is represented as a coding scheme using different levels of DC voltage at high rates. This enables the 5Play feature-set to be maintained over a single 100 m CAT cable, without the electrical characteristics of the wire affecting performance.
HDBaseT uses the same coding technology as Ethernet and even has an Ethernet channel. But its packet-based technology is different from the traditional Ethernet packets. HDBaseT simply relies on the same physical cabling which provides the inherent benefits of the cost-effective CAT infrastructure. HDBaseT enables full ultra-HD/3D and 2K/4K uncompressed video, and is compatible with all HDMI formats. It provides the highest video quality, with zero latency, and directly relays digital audio from the HDMI chipset. It supports all audio standard formats, including TrueHD, DTS HD-Master Audio, and Dolby Pro Logic and more it uses an Ethernet jack (RJ-45).
HDBaseT is fully backward-compatible with Ethernet protocol, and connected devices can automatically switch to Ethernet communication mode only. HDBaseT enables RS232, IR, Ethernet, and USB 2.0. HDBaseT also allows vendors to send proprietary controls to be used when their equipment is on both ends.
HDBaseT was designed to support different types of media and controls. Class A is the original HDBaseT standard, supporting the 5Play feature set: ultra-high-definition audio & video, controls, Ethernet, USB and power, over a single 100m/328 ft LAN cable. Class B was created to provide a more cost-effective solution for industry applications, seeking selected HDBaseT functionality at shorter distances. Class B support transmission distances of up to 70m/230ft, and does not support Ethernet functionality.
Power over HDBaseT (POH) enables the transmission of DC power in conjunction with data signals over a single Ethernet cable to a distance of up to 100 meters/328 feet. The POH standard is based on the IEEE 802.3at standard (Power of Ethernet – PoE), with the appropriate modifications to enable safe delivery of up to 100 watts (W) over the four-pairs of the Ethernet cable, as necessary.
In a typical POH implementation, the power source equipment (PSE) is installed and powered by a 50- to 57-volt DC power supply, and all powered devices (PDs) then receive power directly over the HDBaseT link across all four pairs of LAN cables. Four-pair powering is the key to delivering more power with greater efficiency. Defined in the latest high-power PoE standards, four-pair powering gives PDs two power interfaces so they can receive twice the power of earlier two-pair solutions by using all four pairs of Ethernet cable. PoH safely delivers the necessary amount according to the product being powered, up to a maximum of 100 Watts. PoH standard is based on PoE, and as such is compatible. In that case, the maximum power transmitted will be according to PoE. HDBaseT can power any TV which consumes no more than 100W.
HDBaseT is the only standard that delivers uncompressed Ultra-HD 4K video for up to 100m Unlike other HD distribution technologies currently available, HDBaseT is the only technology that enables long-reach wired connectivity for up to 100 meters (328 feet) for uncompressed ultra-HD multimedia content and up to 100 watts of charging power via a single cable. HDBaseT is optimized for video applications and can connect all HDBaseT-enabled home entertainment devices by providing the 5Play convergence.
Signaling schemes
HDBaseT is close to 10GBASE-T in expectations of cabling using similar data rate (10.2 Gbps) and signaling schemes (PAM 16). Hence, similar transmission requirements for cabling are applicable to HDBaseT as have been specified for 10GBASE-T for commercial buildings. This includes stringent alien crosstalk specifications when multiple cables carrying HDBaseT signals are bundled or laid together in a pathway. Both UTP and F/UTP cabling solutions were tested and passed the HDBase-T 100 meter channel requirements with substantial margin. One of the areas under consideration for improvement is in the way HDBaseT handles EDID and CEC when connecting a single source to multiple displays. There currently is not a defined way to perform EDID management like what we are seeing in some of the newer HDMI Matrix Switchers. This is becoming more of an issue as we move into mixed modes of 2D and 3D displays and is a consideration in your overall HDBaseT designs. There is work being done on making HDBaseT switches more intelligent in the way they discover and convey what devices are plugged into the ports. There also is an effort to standardize on running USB over an HDBaseT connection.
With support from consumer electronics manufacturers, content providers and organizations, HDBaseT is revolutionizing the multimedia distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content in the home entertainment environment via a single LAN cable. HDBaseT technology is the industry’s most advanced, cost effective, easy to use, all-in-one solution for whole-home converged distribution of HD multimedia content, with inherent support for the huge install base of uncompressed sources and real-time interactive devices.
