SINGAPORE (Jan 23, 2015) — FCI, a leading supplier of high speed interconnect solutions & connector systems, announced today the introduction of its SFP+ SR transceiver, a new generation of low power pluggable optical transceiver fully compatible with the SFF-8431 industry standard. This 10Gb/s bandwidth pluggable transceiver is fully compliant with 10Gb Ethernet and Fibre Channel signal transmission protocols. FCI’s new generation SFP+ SR transceiver provides 10Gb data rate performance which is achieved with 50% to 70% reduction in power consumption when compared to other market offerings. Operating between 0°C and 70°C, these transceivers are capable of 300 meter reach over OM3 Multimode fiber.
The SFP+ SR transceiver is part of FCI’s suite of 10Gb interconnect solutions which include DAC cable assemblies, SFP+ board connectors and cages and FCI’s SFP+ Active Optical Cable products. The flip-chip optical sub-component VCSEL technology operates at 850nm and is optimized with low power consumption drive electronics, resulting in a total power consumption of approximately 250mW.
This new SFP+ transceiver enables a significant reduction in system hardware operating costs by lowering the heat dissipation and allows a simplification of heat management features and controls.
“Given the increasing demand for high speed interconnect solutions in high performance, high bandwidth hardware systems, and the broad deployment of 10Gb system in data centers, we anticipate that our customers will see significant operational cost savings without compromising any system functionality and performance.” says Roy Muscarella, VP and General Manager of the High Speed Input/Output business unit at FCI. “The significant reduction in power consumption will make our SFP+ SR optical transceivers, a transceiver of choice for any new deployment.”
