Electrolube, the global manufacturer of specialist electro-chemicals, has announced the launch of three new silicone coating products at this year’s IPC APEX EXPO, which takes place from February 24th to March 1st, at the San Diego Convention Center in California. Representatives from the company’s operation in Texas, HK Wentworth America, Inc, and Electrolube’s senior technical team, will be available to discuss coating, resin and thermal management solutions with visitors on booth 3532.
Electrolube’s two-part conformal coating range – 2K – has been a tremendous breakthrough for customers, combining the tough, resistant properties of a resin, with the easy application of a coating. Up until now, most of the 2K range consists of polyurethane coatings, however, due to increasing demand, Electrolube has developed a new silicone 2K conformal coating, 2K750. The new 2K750 has been specifically formulated for selective-coating with greater thickness and improved edge coverage. The UL94V-0 compliant coating also features a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +220°C, with a high continuous use temperature of 200°C. The tough, low-stress coating has a fast thermal cure time of 10 mins at 80°C, in addition to curing at ambient temperature, and provides excellent adhesion to most solder resists and metals.
Throughout the development of the 2K range, Electrolube has worked closely with selective coating machine manufacturers to ensure that these robust formulations are fully optimised for application using commercially available dispensers. Included among these is PVA’s two-component spray valve modification VPX-2KS. During the APEX show, PVA’s Jonathan Urquhart will host a presentation, entitled ‘Implementing 2 Component Conformal Coatings into High Volume Production and Their Benefits’ (S31: Conformal Coatings II / Circuit Protection). The presentation will take place on Thursday 1st March at 10.30am and will be a very interesting insight to visitors looking for more information about two-part, high performance conformal coatings for harsh environments and discover more about their numerous advantages over single component coatings.
Electrolube will also launch a new Moisture Cure Silicone conformal coating, MCS, during the show. MCS is a soft, flexible, low stress coating with a wide operating temperature range (-40 to +200°C) and a high continuous use temperature of 180°C. The low viscosity, solvent-free silicone material provides a rapid touch-dry time at ambient conditions (10 mins at 25°C, 50% RH), which can be further accelerated with heat, and fully cures within 48 hours.
Electrolube’s new Heat Cure Silicone coating, HCS, is a low viscosity, solvent-free material with an extremely fast full thermal cure time of 10-12 mins at 110°C. The low odour HCS coating meets the requirements of UL94V-0 and has virtually no cure by-products. Developed with improved adhesion, HCS is a soft, yet tough, low stress coating with a wide operating temperature range (-40 to +200°C) and a high continuous use temperature of 180°C.
