26.81 Million People are living with disabilities in India. It is approx 2.21% of total population of India. They are entitled to the same rights as all other human beings and to equal opportunities. In most countries, at least one person out of 10 is disabled by physical, mental or sensory impairment and at least 25 per cent of any population is adversely affected by the presence of disability.
Our Hon’ble PM is focusing on adoption of Technologies For Empowerment. Technology involves all the communication tools and assistive devices enabling a person with a disability to be independent and an active participant in all areas of the community. Technology access is closely linked to accessibility and inclusion. It includes various types of assistive technology specifically for disabled people, such as hearing aids, braille typewriter, wheelchairs, Mobile, Software and more.
Unfortunately the appropriate access to technology and assistive devices are not readily obtained in developing countries, the main obstacles being: availability, appropriateness, affordability, servicing and maintenance.
With the objective of introducing of new and innovative technologies for disabled persons, In Collaboration with Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, ASSOCHAM is organizing a Conference cum Exhibition on “Empowering Disabled Persons with Accessible & Assistive Technology”.During this Conference, Corporates, PSUs, Banks will be invited for having a discussion on supporting disability related programmes for provision of same rights and of equal opportunities as all other human beings under their CSR Policies.
