Canon launches PowerShot G16 in India

New Delhi, January , 2014: Canon India, world leader in Digital Imaging Space is pleased to introduce the latest of their enthusiast “G” Series – the PowerShot G16 in India. The PowerShot features an all-new DIGIC 6 processor coupled with a new 12.1MP High Sensitivity CMOS sensor, giving it unprecedented speed, and image quality, as well as the ability to shoot Full HD1080p video at 60p. Its high speed AF greatly improves focus speed by shooting 12.2fps continuous shooting in (at) full resolution and 5.7 fps with AF. Useful features like built-in Wi-Fi, artistic HDR Scene Mode, as well as a bunch of star shooting modes designed better capture the brilliance of the night sky, make the G16 a highly useful tool for newcomers and enthusiasts alike.

The G16 with its 12.1 megapixel HS CMOS sensor with DIGIC 6 imaging processor, produces phenomenal image quality great details and performs superbly in low light as well.

The PowerShot G16 features a zoom range of 5x, with a focal range of 28mm-140mm and this is expandable to 10x using Canon’s new ZoomPlus feature. The bright f/1.8 (W) – f/2.8/ (T) lens performs beautifully especially in low light, perfect for creating dramatic soft backgrounds with shallow depth-of-field.

A unique new feature of the PowerShot G16 is the new Star Shooting modes, for users who like to take photos and videos of night skies. These modes are Star Nightscape, Star Trails and Star Time-Lapse Movie, and they allow never-seen-before control over creating stunning photography of the night sky, in a number of creative ways.

PowerShot G16 takes imaging to the next level by improving on existing creative filters. Featuring the new Background Defocus feature, the camera can produce the “bokeh” effect. It does this by taking two photos, and the two images are then analyzed and the background is digitally blurred according to user-desired levels. The High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode was first introduced in 2010, and Canon has now improved this function by adding 5 new artistic effects to it (Natural, Art Standard, Art Vivid, Art Bold, and Art Embossed).

•             DIGIC 6 imaging processor 

Powered by Canon’s latest DIGIC 6 imaging processor, this camera has improved sensitivity to shoot at higher resolutions with less noise in dark conditions. In addition, the DIGIC 6 Imaging Processor enables video recording in the popular MP4 high-compression format in Full HD resolution, with a smooth 60p frame rate – twice that of earlier models.

•             Wi-Fi for easy sharing 

Wi-Fi capabilities on PowerShot G16 allows for instant sharing and easy uploading. The Canon Image Gateway* (CIG) allows for instant uploading from the cameras. Users with smartphones can also use the CameraWindow app (available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store) to perform the same function. WiFi also allows stills and videos to be shared onto social networking sites like YouTube, Facebook, and Flickr or transferring files onto a PC

•             Full resolution High Speed Shooting

On PowerShot G16 continuous and continuous Shooting AF have become considerably faster, thanks to DIGIC 6. Users are able to shoot full resolution continuous shooting with no time lag.

Continuous shooting: 12.2 fps; 9.3fps (from 6th shot) – max. 520 shots

Continuous shooting AF : 5.7fps

•             Manual Focus Assist-Peaking

Enables easy focus check by highlighting the edges of in-focus subjects with colored lines.

•             Background Defocus

PowerShot G16 takes imaging to the next level by improving on existing creative filters. Featuring the new Background Defocus feature, the cameras can produce the “bokeh” effect. The PowerShot G16 is priced at INR 34,995/- and is available at all the retail outlets including Canon Image Squares.
