RF Transceiver Family Enhances Cavium’s LTETM Small Cell Manufacturable Design with Low-Power, Low-Cost Radio Performance
Singapore, April 8, 2014 – Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation will demonstrate their complementary LTETM small cell radio transceiver and Cavium’s integrated LTETM small cell processors in live, over-the-air demonstrations during the Small Cells Asia conference in Singapore April 8th and 9th, 2014. AKM’s RF transceiver products enable LTETM small cell manufacturers to provide mobile operators with industry-leading performance within the low power budgets they require. AKM has worked closely with Cavium to enable their innovative small cell design with the AKM transceiver.
The AKM AK1589 is an FDD-LTETM/TD-LTETM/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA single-chip RF transceiver which provides ultra-low power consumption, 800mW at 10MHz bandwidth and 1W at 20MHz bandwidth, with 2Tx2Rx MIMO. It offers single ended transmitter outputs and independent sniffer ports permitting users to simplify the front end design. In addition, the AK1589 can also support TD-SCDMA and TD-LTETM applications
“Cavium is recognized as a leading supplier of small cell processors, integrated LTETM stack software and manufacturable design kits,” said Kenji Nemoto, Vice President at AKM. “The collaboration between Cavium and AKM has resulted in smaller form factor, lower power eNodeB designs with flexible RF output power supporting femto to micro cell designs. We also provide capabilities such as carrier aggregation, integrated digital front end processing and simultaneous FDD and TDD operation for Cavium small cell designs.”
“Cavium is continuously striving to offer lower-cost, power optimized small cell reference designs to our customers,” said Raj Singh, General Manager of Cavium’s Wireless Broadband Group. “By partnering with AKM, we are able to leverage both their overall RF expertise and their excellent transceiver products. This synergy results in compelling price, power and performance advantages for our customers.”
The AKM AK1587 is an FDD-LTETM-A/TD-LTETM-A/FDD-LTETM/TDD-LTETM/WCDMA RF transceiver providing a highly integrated solution of 4Tx4Rx MIMO or two Carrier Aggregation (CA) channels in a single chip. Also included on-chip are two built-in TX and RX LO blocks. A single AK1587 chip can support 2×2 MIMO configurations for inter-band CA, intra-band non-contiguous CA, intra-band contiguous CA, LTETM/WCDMA dual mode, or 4×4 MIMO configurations for single Carrier Component (CC). The AK1587 is equipped with JESD204B as well as LVDS and LVCMOS interfaces. JESD204B can be connected through 2 lanes/1 lane configuration. The AK1587 also implements Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) circuitry, effectively reducing the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) allowing the Power Amplifiers to run with less back off, resulting in higher power efficiency and lower system cost. AK1587 will be sampling Q2 2014 with mass production planned in Q1 2015.
