Aatapaha has implemented new age technology in accordance with the Smart India Campaign. This new product has changed the way the street lighting process works. Centralized Control and Monitoring System automates the entire process of light control and gives the user regular updates which helps in the monitoring process.
The energy bill of streetlights contributes significantly to the total power consumption. On an average, street lighting accounts for up to 38% of the total energy bill, in typical cities worldwide (NYCGP 2009).
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, based on Central Electricity Authority statistics, has estimated gross energy consumption for public lighting to be 6,131 million kWh in India on an annual basis.
Also, due to seasonal changes in duration of natural light, these lights are improperly used.
Furthermore, this process is manual and due to human error, power wastage occurs on a large scale.
NavShikha Polypack Industries came up with Aatapaha in 2011, which is primarily a LED lighting manufacturer. It came up with the approach to street light automation in 2012. The soul behind the development of this technology is the effective utilization of man power and electricity conservation.
The System is fully programmable and controlled from the controller and remotely via user friendly web application and wireless control. That means that the user can control the panel by simply sending a text message to that particular panel.
For further ease and greater savings, Aatapaha has developed a variant which uses astronomical based timer to control the lights in an area. That means that there will be no need for deployment of personnel to control the lights and other appliances such as water pumps.
The other alternative of controlling by web based application is available as well.
The user just needs to set the astronomical timer and forget about switching the lights on and off.
The user can also monitor & create reports on important parameters such as total power consumption through the web application.
The pilot project of this product was done in Visakhapatnam, in the cyclone affected region in 2014. The response was tremendous and Aatapaha went on to implement it further in Shimla, Guwahati, and Aligarh and recently in Delhi MES. The energy consumed by the street lights has gone down considerably in these regions. On an average the savings per month are 47.84 %.
This technology provides the user with many tools and benefits:
- Turning Lights ON/OFF
- Sending Meter data to Web Application
- Scheduling as per requirement
- Measure Savings
- Issue alerts
- Safety
- Customizable as per need

The further advancements are being made to incorporate Zigbee, RF and Modbus in the CCMS panels.
In the near future Aatapaha has plans to dominate the Light Automation Market by introducing the product’s advanced module and partnering with luminary giants like Orient electric and Havells.
