“Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge: India Analog Design Contest 2015” launched for Indian engineering students
Bangalore, April 4, 2014: The 2nd Texas Instruments India Educators’ Conference (TIIEC 2014) was inaugurated here today by Dr. Mahesh Mehendale, Director, Kilby Labs, Texas Instruments (TI) India and TI Fellow. The two-day conference aims at promoting industry-academia interaction, knowledge sharing and innovation.
This year’s conference is being held in cooperation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Bangalore Section and IEEE Circuits & Systems (CAS) Society, Bangalore Chapter.
TIIEC 2014 also marks the successful conclusion of “Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge: India Analog Design Contest 2014.” The nation-wide contest attracted nearly 7000 students who submitted over 1700 entries. There were 19 finalists and 29 consolation prize winners in the exhibits program, all of whom will receive cash awards and certificates. The 19 finalists will also compete for the top 3 awards that include the prestigious Chairman’s Award (cash prize of $10,000).
Totally over 21,000 students from engineering colleges across India participated in various contests organized by TI from May 2013 to April 2014.
TIIEC 2014 will feature more than 50 paper presentations in 9 technical sessions. These papers and technical sessions are in areas such as Industrial & Instrumentation, Automotive, Security &safety and Medical. A highlight of the conference will be the demonstration of innovative student projects submitted by the finalists of the 2014 contest.
“TI is committed to nurturing engineering talent and our University programs bring together everyone who is working towards the common goal of equipping our students with industry-necessary skill-sets,” said Dr. Mehendale. “As a company focused on innovation, we hope to inspire students to get creative with technology and system-level electronic design.”
“In India, TI has a robust University program encompassing nearly 2000 labs in engineering colleges to help encourage innovation in system and applications design using TI’s Analog and Embedded Processing products. TI gives strong emphasis to the nurturing of technical talent in universities across the country,” said Mr. Sanjay Srivastava, Director – University Programs, TI India.
“We set up labs in engineering colleges, conduct workshops, train-the-trainer programs and innovation contests for students to help develop and hone their practical skills. A large number of universities in India have included TI technology in their curriculum,” Mr. Srivastava added.
“TIIEC 2014 provides an ideal platform to launch the Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge: India Analog Design Contest 2015” said Dr. C P Ravikumar, General Chair, TIIEC 2014. “The two-tiered contest will start at the college level across India in May 2014 and culminate in a national level contest in April 2015.”
To participate in Innovation Challenge, students will have to design products using at least three TI Analog ICs, or two TI Analog ICs and a TI Embedded Processing IC.
