During the recently held electronica India 2024, Littelfuse brought many new products for multiple applications to the exhibition. Vaishali Umredkar, Executive Editor of Electronics Maker had the honor to interview Dr. Boris Golubovic, Vice President of Marketing & Business Development at Littelfuse, who had an in-depth exchange with the reporter on the topics of sustainable development, electrification and technological innovation, as well as how to face the needs of the Indian market.
Excerpts from the interview:
Key Strategies and Focus Areas
During the interview Boris said, “Littelfuse’s commitment to understanding customer needs drives our innovation strategy. Recently, artificial intelligence has emerged as a significant market growth area, leading to the demand for more compact and powerful products. As a hardware company, we focus on helping AI product manufacturers use their devices efficiently. The trend toward smaller, more powerful solutions is evolving rather than revolutionizing our approach. For instance, we recently announced higher current ratings within the same footprint as previous cell phone generations, illustrating AI’s profound impact on our devices.”
He further underlined the growth of the EV sector. “Electric vehicles remain a vibrant area despite some fluctuations, with ongoing interesting projects. Additionally, battery storage is evolving from electric cars to commercial vehicles and now to stationary applications in buildings, aiming for energy neutrality and integration with solar and renewable energy sources. These trends highlight innovation in several sectors”.
Technology Innovation Leads to Multi-Field Applications
When asked about Littelfuse new innovations, he mentioned, “Recently, we launched a surface mount MOV designed for electric vehicle charging, responding to the shift from through-hole to surface mount devices. In battery storage, our new TTape™ temperature indicator monitors battery cells to extend their lifespan and improve the detection of overheating. Additionally, we are advancing industrial applications with our TVS diode for protecting silicon carbide MOSFET gate drivers and a new solid-state relay for HVAC and refrigeration that offers rapid switching capabilities. Our diverse product offerings cater to many applications, highlighting our customer-centric approach and hybrid evolution in technology”.
Design Innovation Comes from Early Perception of Needs
While talking about Littelfuse design hubs, Boris highlighted, “We are experiencing strong global design activity and innovation, despite occasional challenges with specific clients. Engaging early with customers’ engineering teams allows us to share market insights and make timely product recommendations. Our engineers’ rapid responsiveness helps address the dynamic market demands. Notably, as highlighted by the Indian Prime Minister, India’s electronics sector is growing, evolving from a commodities market to a hub of talent and engineering creativity. We aim to support this transformation by enhancing the technology infrastructure to facilitate a broader range of innovative applications in India”.
