An initiative by element 14 for Indian Contestants to update progress in real time
Bangalore, India, 17 March 2014 – element 14 launches an initiative ‘Rocking Raspberry Pi Challenge’ to provide an opportunity for young design enthusiasts to develop a consumer device on the very popular Raspberry Pi by creating the ultimate karaoke machine which would be a delight to music enthusiasts.
The competition which began on February 10, 2014 will go on till April 11, 2014. The selected 15 contestants are working in full swing to develop their state-of-the-art karaoke experiences with Raspberry Pi and its accessories. In addition to working towards creating their ultimate karaoke machines, these contestants are actively documenting their experiences on the contest’s Community page in the form of images, videos, blog posts, project status reports, graphics, at http://www.element14.com/rockingraspberrypi
Each contestant has adopted a unique approach for bringing their imagination to life. They are regularly blogging about their experiments on a range of topics such as hacking Pi’s SSH under windows; connecting to Wi-Fi and playing YouTube videos; making the first pygame application; switching and working on the headless mode of Pi, and making a simple media player with Python, among others.
Simultaneously, the visitors to the page have the opportunity to engage with the contestants and encourage them by viewing or liking their posts, saving bookmarks and giving feedback on their project updates under the comment’s section. The element14 Community provides an excellent opportunity to the engineering fraternity to access first-hand information on interesting facts and exchange innovative engineering ideas on a common platform.
“We are pleased to witness the excellent response that this contest has received from our Community members so far. The community page has been quite active with regular updates which are enabling in-depth collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas among members and visitors. I am looking forward to seeing many more creative ideas and experiences being shared on the platform which will enable the growth of the engineering community in India,” said Ravi Pagar, Regional Director – South Asia, element14 Asia-Pacific.
All contestants will be judged on their creative fulfillment of the challenge and also by the quality of media engagement raised during the course of their projects through blog posts, videos and designs, including photos and diagrams. Two winners will be selected, one by a panel of judges and another ‘People’s Choice’ winner based on votes on the award-winning element14 Community. The Grand Prize winner will receive an Apple iPhone 5S and the runner up will receive a Sony PlayStation 4.
