Easy-to-Deploy, Low Cost Indoor/Outdoor LTE Small Cell Base Stations and 1 Gbit Full-Duplex Backhaul Links for Both 60 GHz and 80 GHz Bands
SURPRISE, AZ, February 19, 2014 – Athena Wireless Communications, Inc. today announced that they will be exhibiting their new Pixie LTE small cell base stations and Phoenix 80 GHz backhaul link units at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain on February 24-27, 2014. Both units are easy to deploy and feature zero footprint formats. The Cavium OCTEON Fusion®-based Pixie will support up to 64 active users on PoE+ power and the Phoenix offers 1000 Mbps bi-directional data throughput.
“Big, powerful things do come in small packages,” said Eduardo Tinoco, CEO of Athena Wireless. “Our Pixie™ customizable outdoor small cells also will be available with integrated millimeter-wave backhaul and are the smallest, most cost-effective, and easy-to-implement solution on the market today. In conjunction with Cavium we have entered into multiple operator lab and field trials in North America and Europe. Our Phoenix™ provides a full 1000Mbps of data throughput each way and connects with just a single cable. Both also consume very little power. We’re excited to showcase these products at Mobile World Congress.”
“Athena is a valued LTE small cell partner for Cavium and the Pixie product sets new standards for cost, size and low power” said Raj Singh, General Manager of Cavium’s Wireless Broadband Group. “This best in class solution developed by Athena, using our OCTEON Fusion LTE products, combined with their millimeter-wave backhaul capabilities help address one of the critical issues for outdoor small cell deployments.”
