In an exclusive interview with Anselmn Lim, Regional Manager, South Asia, Rochester Electronics spoke to EM more about company strengths, achievements and its market growth.
Let us know little bit about Rochester Electronics.
Rochester Electronics is the world’s largest continuous source of semiconductors–100% Authorized by over 70 leading semiconductor manufacturers. Rochester services distributors, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), contract manufacturers (CM), and original component manufacturers (OCM) – no other company compares to the breadth of Rochester’s product selection, value-added services and manufacturing solutions.
What do you see as your core strengths?
Rochester Electronics is the world’s largest continuing source of semiconductors – 100% Authorized by over 70 leading semiconductor manufacturers.
Rochester is an original manufacturer stocking distributor, we have over 15 Billion devices in stock, spread over 200,000-part numbers, providing the world’s largest range of end-of-life (EOL) semiconductors and broadest range of active semiconductors.
Rochester solves supply chain disruption with the world’s broadest range of active semiconductors and we provide a continuous source of supply with the world’s largest range of EOL semiconductors.
What are the key trends and technologies you are foreseeing in the market?
India’s National Electronic Policy 2019 can provide an impetus to Make in India (MII) and its efforts to become a global hub for Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), apart from making electronics sector more competitive. As India’s domestic manufacturing grows to the next level and becomes more export-focused, the skill sets and competence of the India market will rise to the demands.
The component supply may be a different situation, as there is a limited supply of components in the market. This is especially true for components which have reached end-of-life (EOL). As demands for electronic components surge in the next few years, companies in India must ensure that they have access to a proven, reliable source of certified components for both active and non-active parts.
Give us a brief about your manufacturing center?
As a licensed semiconductor manufacturer, Rochester has manufactured over 20,000 device types. With over 12 billion die in stock, Rochester has the capability to manufacture over 70,000 device types.
Our proven test protocol ensures the highest test quality with accuracy guaranteed; offering a wide variety of capabilities across multiple test platforms.
Rochester offers authorized semiconductor product replication/re-creation services–form, fit and functional drop-in replacement with 100% software compatibility, no errata
Tell us something about your achievements from last few years?
Over the years, Rochester Electronics has continued to expand the business with new component suppliers entrusting their product lines to us. With direct sales and support staff located around the world, complemented by our network of both regional and global authorized channel partners, we are able to service our customers face-to-face or via our e-commerce platform. In India, we have appointed several local partners that has expanded our market presence and we continue to service our strategic customers in India with our direct sales office in South Asia.
Which are the regions where you find your maximum growth?
We definitely see growth in countries like China and pockets of South East Asia. India is definitely a country with huge potential, given the domestic size and the government initiatives in this industry.
Can you highlight your percentage growth rate in 2018 and future expectations?
We have experienced double-digit growth in 2018 and we are optimistic about the future. The semiconductor industry is susceptible to cyclical fluctuations but Rochester’s unique model in providing both active and end-of-life components provides a balanced approach as companies often require both portfolios to sustain manufacturing.
What do you see as the primary challenges to the profitability of the manufacturing industry?
Semiconductor EOL is an ever-present problem in every electronics manufacturing industry today, and it’s not going away. The goal has always been to purchase a replacement device that is the exact form, fit, and function as the original. Lately, companies have been offering a variety to aftermarket “substitute” solutions that claim to be form, fit, and function replacements; however, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are finding from experience these parts often fall short of that promise. This greatly affects the end products and results in waste of resources affecting profitability. It is imperative that companies in India focus on the highest quality in the manufactured products with zero-failures. This can only be achieved with certified and guaranteed components.
What are your solutions for manufacturing and design industry and how do you help?
For over 35 years, Rochester’s growing supplier authorizations allow us to make available the world’s largest continuous supply of finished semiconductor devices, all of which are 100% authorized, traceable and guaranteed. This growing product and service portfolio continues to provide an authorized source of supply that minimizes any disruption in the manufacturing process.
