Radiometrix has launched a high power narrowband radio modem that provides an RF output of up to 500 mW with a data rate of up to 19200 bps. The HNM2 meets the ETSI EN 300 220-1 Category 1 specification for high performance receivers where a short range radio device may have inherent implications for the safety of human life.
This makes the multichannel, low power consumption device suitable for use in safety critical wireless applications such as social alarms and healthcare monitoring.
Current consumption is only 280 mA for transmit and 40 mA for receive, from a supply voltage of 6 V to 16 V dc. Providing a direct interface to SPI, USB, RS232 and RS485 serial ports, it measures only 80 mm x 86 mm x 15 mm. Power can be provided via the USB link or an external supply.
Offering point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communication, the frequency programmable HNM2 has a store and forward repeater mode using dual addressing to extend its operating range.
Other features include a range test mode, a SAW front end filter, 12.5 kHz / 25 kHz channel spacing, data whitening using a pseudo-random sequence, and a digital received signal strength indicator.
The modem can be specified to operate on the licence exempt bands of 458 MHz in UK or 169 MHz and 869 MHz in the EU. Custom frequency bands are also available from 160 MHz to 915 MHz. Channel selection is made by means of a rotary hex switch or using AT commands.
As well as social alarms and healthcare monitoring, the HNM2 is suitable for IoT and other applications, including high end security and fire alarms, lone worker alarms, industrial / commercial telemetry and telecommand, in-building environmental monitoring and control, vehicle data up/download, and automatic meter reading.
