China continues to see strong demand for power electronic-related products and solutions
The current marketplace for power electronics and applications in China remains highly profitable for suppliers of related goods. In addition to the country’s rapid industrialisation and increasing need for a variety of electronic devices, the Chinese government is also investing heavily on the renewable energy sector.
In response to the challenges of a swelling population, rising living standards and most importantly environmental protection, China is gradually adopting the smart grid system to improve electricity generation efficiency, reduce power outages and maintain a balanced supply and demand for electricity. The government’s investment in smart grid components is expected to exceed USD 65.4 billion by 2020.
The automotive industry is another promising market. According to Yole Développement analysts, the sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) in China grew exponentially from 2013 to 2015. This rapid growth of the NEV market translates into a surge in the inverter market which is expected to grow six fold from 2014 to 2020 to USD 596 million. To accommodate aggressive electric vehicle sales, China announced that they will build enough charging stations nationwide to satisfy the power demands of up to 5 million electric vehicles by 2020.
