Singapore, March 4, 2016 -The National Registration Department (NRD) of Malaysiahas been honoured for enabling a quantum leap in public sector identity application and providing exemplary services to Malaysian citizens with MyKad. Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA) recognized NRD with its inaugural Radiant Vision Award and Radiant Service Award. MyKad is a multi-purpose smart identity card based on technologies and chip solutions of Infineon Technologies and Datasonic.
Partnership with Datasonic
MyKad was brought to operation through Datasonic’s smart card personalisation solution, consumables, and technical support and maintenance services to NRD. At the core of the card is Infineon’s SLE 78 security chip that protects users’ data.
The Infineon chip SLE 78 stands out with “Integrity Guard” digital security that reacts autonomously to security threats. At the core of this self-checking design is a duo of CPU that performs a continuous self-check of all operations. Another key element of Integrity Guard is the comprehensive encryption over the whole data path, leaving no plaintext on the chip. “Integrity Guard” encryption goes beyond conventional concepts and for the first time in chip card history, even calculates with encrypted numbers in the CPU.
The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) awarded Infineon’s SLE 78 based on “Integrity Guard” technology with the highest security certificate according to Common Criteria EAL 6+
In addition, being based on Solid Flash™ technology, the chip increases flexibility in inventory management, shortens time-to-market and allows secured loading.
About the Radiant Awards
The Radiant Vision Award recognises forward thinking ideas that have led to significant innovations in how national electronic identity schemes are planned, designed, developed or deployed. All aspects of identity systems, including but not limited to architectures, processes or technologies, are eligible for consideration if they enable a quantum leap in public sector identity applications and services.
The Radiant Service Award is for a national electronic identity scheme that has consistently delivered exemplary services to citizens and residents over a period of at least 5 years, providing not only broader and more efficient access to government but also making life easier and more convenient for citizens and residents.
