The Atlas-SoC kit — designed for embedded software developers — boots Linux, runs web and virtual network computing (VNC) servers, and provides reference designs, development tools, and tutorials to accelerate the learning curve of developing software for systems-on-chips (SoCs). The DE0-Nano-SoC kit, designed for hardware developers, provides reference designs and tutorials to guide developers through field-programmable gate array (FPGA), hard processor system (HPS), and system designs.
The Terasic Atlas-SoC and DE0-Nano-SoC kits, now available at Mouser Electronics, provide a robust hardware design platform based on the Altera SoC FPGA. The 28 nm Altera SoC FPGA integrates dual-core ARM® Cortex®-A9 embedded cores with industry-leading programmable logic for maximum design flexibility. Developers can leverage the power of reconfigurability along with a high-performance, low-power processor system. Altera’s SoC combines an ARM-based HPS consisting of processor, peripherals, and memory interfaces tied seamlessly with the FPGA fabric using a high-bandwidth interconnect backbone. The Atlas-SoC and DE0-Nano-SoC development boards include high-speed DDR3 memory, analog-to-digital capabilities, Ethernet networking, and more. The kits contain all components required to use the boards with a computer running Microsoft Windows XP or later.
The DE0-Nano-SoC development kit uses the same printed circuit board as the Atlas-SoC development platform. The only difference is the getting-started process for the two kits. Both kits feature their own unique set of reference designs, tools, and documentation that provide different user experiences.
