  • SiTime SiT8021µPower MEMS Oscillator family for wearables, IoT and mobile

  • 90% lower power

  • 40% smaller

  • 70% lighter

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – May 18, 2015 – SiTime Corporation, a MEMS and analog semiconductor company and a wholly owned subsidiary of MegaChips Corporation  announced a new family of µPower MEMS Oscillators for the wearable, IoT and mobile markets. The SiT8021 oscillator, the first device in this family, shatters the limitations of quartz technology by setting new benchmarks in power, size and weight. The SiT8021 consumes 90% lower power, is 40% smaller, and 70% lighter than quartz devices. These best in class specifications enable the longest battery life as well as the smallest size and weight of smart watches, fitness bands, tablets, smart phones, portable audio and accessories.

“In 2013 and 2014, SiTime introduced the smallest, lowest power 32 kHz oscillator and TCXO for the wearables, IoT and mobile markets. These products were based on SiTime’s game-changing TempFlat™ MEMS and low-power programmable analog technology. Customers adopted these 32 kHz XOs and TCXOs rapidly – we expect to ship several tens of millions of units in 2015,” said Piyush Sevalia, executive vice president of marketing at SiTime. “Innovating rapidly, SiTime used our revolutionary technologies to deliver the mPower family of MHz MEMS oscillators. This new family of oscillators breaks through the limitation of quartz technology and enables smaller electronic devices with longer battery life.”

“Wearables and IoT are generating a lot of excitement as they are expected to drive the future growth of the semiconductor industry,” said Tony Massimini, Chief of Technology at Semico Research. “SiTime, with its leadership in Silicon MEMS timing solutions, is in a unique position to capitalize on the rapid growth of wearables and IoT.”

About the SiT8021 µPower MEMS Oscillator

The SiT8021 delivers the following features and benefits as compared to quartz technology.

  • 100 μA of supply current, 90% lower
  • Ultra-small 1.5 mm x 0.8 mm package, 40% smaller
  • Mass of 1.28 mg, 70% lighter
  • Height of 0.55 mm, 45% thinner
  • 1 to 26 MHz output frequency with 6 decimal places of accuracy
  • Operating temperature from -40°C to +85°C
  • ±100 PPM frequency stability
  • 1.8V operation for battery powered applications
  •  Unique, programmable output drive strength for best EMI or driving multiple loads
  • 30 times higher reliability, at 1140 million hours MTBF (< 1 FIT)
  • 30 times higher shock & vibration resistance, the best in the industry

Samples of the SiT8021 are available now for high volume designs. General sampling and mass production is targeted for Q3 2015. Pricing is available upon request.
